Kenya Field Visit I

As part of the launching meeting of the East Africa Chapter, in Nairobi, Kenya, twelve parliamentarians from nine countries participated in a one day field visit to two World Bank projects on July 25, 2003

The delegation visited the Olkaria Geothermal Power station, as renewable energy from geothermal sources accounts for six percent’s of Kenya power production and constitutes a sustainable alternative to hydroelectric dams for electricity supply.

In the afternoon the same day, the group visited a Catholic Charity in Korogocho, a slum on the outskirts of Nairobi, supporting orphans, training community health workers and preparing children for lives without parents.  The project is one of the 990 HIV/AIDS sub-projects the Bank supports in Kenya, with its Multi-Country HIV/AIDS program or MAP.
