MP delegation with the project manager

A delegation of nine parliamentarians from eight countries visited Serbia and Montenegro from November 30 to December 4, 2004

The visit marked the first time PNoWB had a chance to focus on the specific problems facing economies in transition.  The delegation met with World Bank staff, government, parliamentarians and civil society in both republics.  The parliamentarians also had a chance to visit four projects supported by the World Bank, in the field of education, health, land registration and tourism promotion.

The delegation praised the participatory nature of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper consultation mechanism, but also expressed concerns as to the lack of provisions for effective oversight mechanisms for civil society and parliamentarians, at the implementation stage.
