Parliamentarians in the Field:

"(...) These field visits are really a great idea, and exactly what is needed, exactly the kind of accountability that the public expects. One of the major problems for international organizations is that they are not accountable for the way they function."
Alain Destexhe, MP Belgium

If Parliamentarians are going to have an impact on development policies and projects, it is essential that they get a chance to make political assessments and check results on the ground.  “Parliamentarians in the field” Program is one of the key activities of the PNoWB, supported by a grant form the government of Finland.

The visits aim to:
• Enhance understanding of the activities of the World Bank and encourage more informed parliamentary engagement in development debate, through the case study of the country visited;
• Review the participatory process and the outcome of the country-owned Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper;
• Encourage dialogue among the MPs on the delegation and between the delegation and World Bank staff, parliamentarians and civil society.

The field visits typically span three or four days and involve discussions with stakeholders and donors.  In a final report, the field visit delegation offer concrete recommendations.
